A working group of ‘Chinese National Committee for Man and the Biosphere Programme’ visited Guangxi Mangrove Research Center and the Field Research Base

On November 19-22, 2019, a working group of ‘Chinese National Committee for Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB)’ composed of Chen Xiangjun-Director of the Secretariat of MAB, Hao Yaohua-Senior reporter of Xinhua and professor Wang Fangchen from the China Wildlife And Wildlife Exploration Association, visited Guangxi Mangrove research center, Zhenzhugang Coastal Ecosystem Experimental Station and the Field Research Base in Zhulin, Guangxi.

At Zhenzhugang Coastal Ecosystem Experimental Station in Fangchenggang, the working group inspected the ‘Underground Tube Eco-farming System’ and had a lively discussion with Jincheng- Dean of Guangxi Academy of Sciences and project team experts who were preparing the ‘2019 Guangxi Think Tanks Report’ at the experimental station. At the Beihai Zhulin Base, the working group were given a presentation on the purpose of the ‘Mangrove Eco-farming in shrimp pond’ project and visited the construction site. Then, the working group visited the experimental building of Guangxi Mangrove Research Center, and heard a presentation by Director Fan Hangqing about the history of the center’s development.

The office environment of Guangxi Mangrove Research Center, the center’s original ‘Underground Tube Eco-farming System’, ‘Mangrove Eco-farming in shrimp pond’, and ‘forest-shellfish-crab symbiotic biological purification system’, etc. impressed the working group. The Working Group confirmed that the research and development practice of Guangxi Mangrove Research Center, which combines ecological restoration with economic benefits and community livelihood, is highly consistent with the concept of sustainable development of MAB, is a successful case of science and technology supporting biodiversity conservation, and the construction of the “One Belt and One Road” ecological corridor is of outstanding significance and will have a profound impact on the international community. “In my opinion, these projects are not only full of creativity, but also full of poetic and humanistic feelings, ” said Mr. Hao Yaohua of the working group. ‘Same heart, and same future! “。

It is reported that the ‘World Biodiversity Congress’ will be held in China in November 2020. The Congress is considered to be a major international event to demonstrate the achievements of China in implementing the International Convention on Biodiversity, publicize the idea of General Secretary Xi’s ecological civilization and establish an image of ‘a responsible power’, which has been highly valued by the Party and the State. The purpose of the Working Group’s visit was to prepare the typical cases of biodiversity conservation achievements on behalf of the Chinese Government.
