Guangxi Coastal Highway Longmen Bridge and Dafengjiang Bridge Mangrove Wetland Protection and Restoration Project - Beihai Mangrove Forest Restoration Project Successfully Launched

On the morning of July 30, 2021, the launching ceremony of the Longmen Bridge and Dafengjiang Bridge Mangrove Wetland Repair and Restoration Project - Beihai Mangrove Forest Restoration Project on National Highway G228 from Dandong to Dongxing Guangxi Coastal Highway was successfully held at the sea dyke of Xin Genglou, Xiba Township, Hepu County (Linban 1, Anle Village Committee). Chen Xiaomao, third grade researcher of Beihai Municipal Natural Resources Bureau, Luo Cuili, deputy general manager of Guangxi Xingang Transportation Investment Co., Ltd, the project owner, Guo Lei, deputy director of Wuhan Bridge Construction Engineering Supervision Co. Mayor of Hepu County, General Manager Su Fumin of Beihai Yifeng Forestry Design Limited Liability Company and other leaders and related personnel attended the ceremony.

The project launching ceremony was presided over by Associate Researcher Mo Zhucheng of Guangxi Mangrove Research Center. First of all, Chen Xiaomao made a speech on behalf of the project supervisory unit, pointing out that the project is a concrete action to implement the important instruction of General Secretary Xi, “We must respect the science and implement the responsibility to protect the mangrove forests”, and hoped that the construction would be accelerated with all our strength under the premise of guaranteeing the quality of the project and the safety of the production. Subsequently, Luo Cuili, on behalf of the owner of the unit, thanked the Natural Resources Bureau and other departments for their support, she hoped that the scientific implementation of the project, and strive to make the project a model for the industry. Hong Kizhen, on behalf of the Party Committee and Government of Xiba Township, expressed full support for the project and ensured its rapid progress. Fan Hangqing thanked the owner unit for its trust and concern at all levels, saying that all aspects of work will be carried out in an orderly manner to ensure the smooth implementation of the project. Finally, Chen Xiaomao and Luo Cuili walked down the mudflat and planted the first mangrove tree of the restoration project together.

This restoration project is the off-site mangrove ecological compensation afforestation of the mangrove forest occupied by the Dafengjiang Bridge project, and in 2020, after the investigation and screening by the planning and design unit and the forestry authorities of Beihai City and Hepu County, it was determined to be carried out in the beach mudflat of 1 Linban, Anle Village Committee, Xiba Town, Hepu County, Beihai City, and it is planned to create mangrove forests of an area of 2.16 hm2 (32.4 acres), and the project construction and maintenance cycle will last for 5 years from July 2021 to July 2026. The project construction and maintenance period is 5 years (from July 2021 to July 2026), and scientific monitoring and consolidation of mangrove ecological restoration technology results (monitoring reports, patents, theses and technical guides) will be carried out. Based on scientific research units and supported by enterprises and the government, the project will contribute to the protection of ecological diversity and the restoration of the ecological environment.
