Invited by the organizers, FAN Hangqing attended International Workshop on Integrated and Ecosystem-Based Ocean Management and Governance held in January 30-31, 2019 in Xiamen University, Xiamen, China. The workshop was sponsored by the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) and State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University) and hosted by Minhan Dai and Jan-Gunnar Winther. Nineteen participates from domestic and abroad have attended the workshop, in which by giving a presentation titled Effects and Problems of Mangrove Conservation in China, FAN Hangqing has briefed the mangrove resources in China, introduced mangrove conservation progress and contribution in China, and put forward some policy suggestion.

Ecosystem orientated integrated ocean management, a Special Policy Study (SPS) on Ocean Governance of CCICED, was formally initiated in 2017 and co-chaired by Academician SU Jilan and professor Jan-Gunnar Winther, focusing on mapping relevant ocean and coastal issues of priority interest to China, as well as ongoing national and international ocean initiatives and undertakings relevant in this context and suggesting how China could complement and contribute to these efforts. Mangroves, as a typical marine ecosystem, has been paid much attention globally to regarding the implementation of IOM theory to the mangrove management and challenge to be faced.

The China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) is a high-level international advisory body founded in 1992 by the Central Government of China and chaired by the national leader, who attend the important events of CCICED every year. CCICED is a unique think tank with a privileged channel to China’s top decision-makers and able to give its policy suggestion directly to top decision-makers.
